Planning for your dress

First of all, allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the experience of having your dress ordered especially for you. Remember, most people usually get to wear their special dress for one day only, so it's essential that you enjoy the complete build-up to that day just as much. So here is a great place to start:

The initial consultation

All of us at Terry Fox shop love creating and talking about beautiful clothes, so any excuse is very welcome! We would suggest you book an appointment so you can try on as many styles as you like at your leisure. This appointment time will be allocated specially to you. However, you are of course welcome to come into the shop to browse at any time without an appointment.

What's next?

We can piece ideas together to suit you. If you have decided that you would like to progress we can place you into our order book. Your appointments will be scheduled to suit you from now until your wedding. Ideally, providing enough time has been allowed, your outfit will be finished four weeks before the wedding. You will then be able to sit calmly adoring your dress, knowing it's ready when you are.

We will now ask for a 50% deposit from you and your measurements will be added to the file, along with details of your chosen fabrics etc.

Remember to talk to us about any changes you wish to make. It is important to us that you are totally happy with your dress and that you are the most perfect bride on your day.

First fitting

A toile will be made for you to try on, this is a pattern of your dress made from calico. This is the perfect blank canvas to mold to your body shape. We will now create the individual seaming detail that can only be known by you, along with the balance of the design specific to your height and build.

Your dress will arrive part-made to your individual measurements for the first fitting. This can be 'fine-tuned' to your body shape at this time. This also provides an opportunity for you to see your dress for the first time in your chosen fabric.

Second Fitting

Although the design of your dress has now been fixed with style lines now in place, reasonable changes can still be made such as the addition of extra net, shorter hems, sleeve lengths etc. A discussion will also take place regarding any embellishment that is required. This is fun time!! My clients often say they remember this day best of all - rummaging through all the antique crystals, beads and special trimmings. I love watching their faces as they pick out that one amazing thing that catches the eye. We have created a wonderful foundation for the embellishment to sit on. You will by now see how we have engineered this design, each stage looking after the next.

Third Fitting

We like to have this fitting, especially incase of weight loss!!!

Almost there!!! Plenty of time for fine-tuning. The design will almost be finished but we like to have this fitting, leaving plenty of time to make any changes that you wish. It is also the perfect time to have great fun trying on any accessories you may have, so that you can cast your eye over the total vision that you will be seen as on the day.

Completion date

Ready for picking-up four weeks prior to your wedding. Relax and enjoy!!!

Six months is a reasonable time to allow for this process to run smoothly, although we have made wedding dresses in six weeks before now! As you can imagine, the more time available, the less pressure on everyone. This also allows for any unforeseen circumstances such as delays in fabric arrival or cancellation of appointments. We have many brides that travel from afar, as well as those local, and some from around the world! It's therefore very important for us to fit these appointments in around your visits here! We guarantee that we will always go the extra mile. Every one of our customers has been extremely happy with their results.
