We will work to develop an understanding of what traditional and modern-day couture actually means, along with the concepts of bespoke, manufacturing and home-made. During this masterclass you will construct numerous comparison samples - some for every-day use and some just because you can! We will look at processes like interlining, interfacing, cross interlining and fabric manipulation; highly skilled seam detail, full circles, 45-degree points and French seam inlays. We will explore hand stitching versus machine work. Finally, construction choices and expert pressing tips. The Spirit of Couture course is for those who want to build on their love and knowledge of the art of fashion, design and stylish dressing.
This workshop is an essential guide to lead you through the cut of a garment. A truly well-fitted design is a creative skill all of its own – it’s where form and design come together and work together in harmony. It is all about aligning seams for you or your individual client – not only working the size but manipulating the seam and construction detail to create an immaculate style line. You can still have a good fit but a bad cut and the other way round. We will explore all of this and more in this unique workshop.
Terry Fox’s top ten professional construction techniques… A masterclass of fun techniques that come with a seriously good finish. You will create a lovely selection of samples that we know you will refer back to when making professional looking, every-day clothes, time and time again. We will also look at how best to incorporate zips, instant bound buttonholes, darts, bindings, seams, hems, collars, cuffs and set-in sleeves. This is one of Terry’s favourite workshops and is full of her little tips and tricks that you won’t always find written down. As Terry says: “Sharing knowledge is a wonderful thing!”
